As the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager you will provide clear strategic direction and continuously improve Environmental, Health and Safety performance; whilst ensuring business compliance within the groups policies, standards and guidance in addition to the external regulatory requirements associated with the operation of high hazard operations (COMAH). This is a multi-site role with occasional travel overseas. The working environment will be a mixture of office and shop floor based. Significant time will be spent in production areas in order to ensure and improve on a positive environmental, health and safety culture. The manufacturing businesses operate with varying levels of risk and complexity, in particular the use of large industrial, high temperature furnaces and complex plants. The post will operate at a global level to collaborate with peers in other divisions in further developing and enhancing broadly defined policies, as well as translating them into strategic objectives to drive business improvement in Environment, Health and Safety. This is achieved by providing direction, not only to Environmental, Health and Safety professionals globally, but also to senior management teams and local management teams. The successful candidate must be a Chartered member of The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health with strong knowledge and experience of working in an Engineering, Chemical or Pharmaceutical environment. You must be able to demonstrate experience in the application of Environmental, Health and Safety management systems with strong proven experience in supervision/management of professional and administrative staff. You will have a strong background in Process Safety/PSM/IH/COMAH. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills with the ability to persuade and influence successfully at all levels of the business. You will be proactive and have a passion for Health and Safety whilst being able to work in a team and on your own initiative with a hands on approach. You will provide training and advice to improve environmental awareness across the business, and identify opportunities for improvement. You will ensure compliance with environmental legislation, and support the submission of Permit applications to regulatory bodies. The successful Environmental professional will ideally have a degree, or equivalent, in Environmental Science or similar and must have previous experience within an Environmental role. You will be computer literate and have excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must hold a full driving licence, as the role includes regular travel to sites in the UK. The primary responsibilities of this position include managing the IMC product and company compliance strategy and infrastructure; directing and supporting compliance activities including policies, programs, and practices for Europe and International markets. This applies to all applicable existing, new and developing product standards, laws, rules and regulations for the relevant markets across all new or existing products. You will collaborate with the business units to analyse and recommend best course of action for the Company in terms of compliance and regulatory strategy. This position is to ensure product and company compliance, working with all the necessary stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Quality & Compliance you will have specific responsibilities; Execute strategies and processes to drive IMC product compliance to global regulatory requirements and to be consistently recognized as the subject matter expert. You will Coordinate the implementation of IMC product compliance programs, policies and procedures and ensure product compliance with all Directives, country-level, and applicable international product compliance core requirements and market regulatory standards including but not limited to REACH, RoHS, WEEE, EU Directives, EMC and RSL. This also includes obtaining and managing medical device market approval and certification. Establish and implement IMC product compliance verification and assessment/audit programs, this includes managing product approval surveillance audits, and this involves ensuring that construction data and critical parts lists are kept up to date. You will have contact with international approval bodies including but not limited to BSI, VDE, UL, TUV, etc to establish pricing and timescales for formal marking approvals. You will oversee the company legal compliance program, e.g. security, HR, finance, H&S, environmental, etc. As the Regulatory & Approvals Manager you must hold a Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required, an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred. With 10+ years of experience in regulatory compliance product and issues management, both domestic and international. Medical (ISO13485), environmental (ISO14001), food industry, and measurement instruments products industry experience is highly preferred. Previous experience leading and hands-on management of a regulatory product compliance department for a global industry is desired. Knowledge of UL, CSA, NOM, VDE, TUV and other related third party approval body processes. You will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of test methodologies, test standards, and industry best practices for product safety and regulatory compliance and strong working knowledge of UL, IEC safety standards and machine safety and other safety organizations/directives and have attended recognised courses in relevant fields such as EMC, LVD, CE.
