The global Industrial Hygienist will develop and maintain a high level of compliance in relation to Industrial Hygiene related risks for the businesses, with effective IH systems, monitoring programs and ability to demonstrate compliance as part of a licence to operate. This role will also involve oversight of compliance in relation to Occupational Health standards in the businesses. To be considered for the global Industrial Hygienist opportunity you must be a Certified Industrial Hygienist or BOHS fully qualified Occupational Hygienist with at least 7 years’ professional experience. Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent with relevant experience in management oversight of Occupational Hygiene risk management. You will have International experience working in different cultures and relevant experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical or metal industries. With experience in recognition, evaluation and control of highly hazardous chemicals, toxic, flammable and pyrophoric; physical agents such as noise and radiation, and biological agents. Behavioural competences: team working, consulting skills, customer orientation, communication and presentation skills, influencing and negotiation skills, cultural awareness and project leader-ship. Operating at sector level but supporting other company sectors where required, this role will report into the Group Industrial Hygiene and Health Manager. Working with business units to promote awareness and understanding of global standards for industrial hygiene and Health programs to assess, measure and control exposure to workplace health hazards such as chemicals, bio-logical materials, noise, vibration, heat and radiation. You will provide consulting support to business units to review and improve the quality and effectiveness of industrial hygiene and Health programs, including writing Sector and site Health & Safety procedure as assigned. Working with Environmental, Health and Safety Group IH and Health Manager to determine laboratory analytical methods to be used to support exposure monitoring programs for commonly used chemicals. Acting as a source of expert advice on the design and implementation of engineering control measures for workplace health hazards liaising with external consultants as appropriate (chemical containment, ergonomic, acoustic engineers) e.g. new plant design or projects to improve exposure control. Providing industrial hygiene expert input to Sector Regulatory Affairs team and business unit on product stewardship management issues e.g. developing exposure scenarios for ReaCH registration dossiers. Whilst conducting a sector gap analysis in relation to the current and forthcoming ReaCH WEL challenges, creating a timeline for each site and a plan of action. Summarise impact for BU and Sector. Monitor progress with quarterly update. To be considered for the Occupational Hygienist opportunity you must hold a degree in chemistry or other science based subject. With previous experience working as an occupational hygienist in the precious metal refining industry. You must have BOHS Module W501 Measurement of Hazardous Substances (core), BOHS Module W507 Health Effects of Hazardous Substances (core) and BOHS Module W503 Assessment and Control of Noise (Core). As the Occupational Hygienist you will assist the Senior Occupational Hygienist on all matters relating to the management of Occupational Hygiene within the organisation. You will be responsible for the anticipation, recognition and evaluation of potential exposures to toxic substances and physical agents in the workplace to ensure legislative compliance and to ensure that the health of employees is protected. The position will be instrumental in the reduction of workplace exposure to Soluble Platinum and achieving the companies aim of reducing exposure consistently below the good practice limit set by the International Platinum Association of 100ng for Chloro-platinates. Where required the Occupational hygienist will deputise for the Senior Occupational Hygienist. The Occupation Hygiene role will be a demanding hands on role covering dual sites, the successful candidate will need to be able to prioritise effectively to manage a demanding workload. You will Undertake surveys / assessments and evaluate risks to health in the workplace and accurately measure and sample levels of exposure, through precise use of specialist equipment. To prepare and analyse samples submitted by approved procedure with due regard to required accuracy, precision and delivery times. You will ensure work is performed at minimum cost by making efficient use of time, equipment and materials whilst recording facts and details of workplace surveys / assessments. Liaising with a range of people, including employers and employees, in the process of evaluating workplaces.
