Environmental Manager/Officer - Cutting Edge Leader

Leading Process plant offering an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Manager to join their cutting edge recycling and production plant in Bedfordshire. Providing services to local authorities and in England and Wales and major supermarkets, food manufacturers, pubs and restaurants. You will support the Head of Compliance in a variety of compliance activities within the company. The role will implement and maintain the ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015 standards across the business. This will include conducting audits and reviewing agreed KPIs for ISO 14001; you will also support the maintenance of the OHSAS 18001 standard. You will provide training and advice to improve environmental awareness across the business, and identify opportunities for improvement. You will ensure compliance with environmental legislation, and support the submission of Permit applications to regulatory bodies. The successful Environmental professional will ideally have a degree, or equivalent, in Environmental Science or similar and must have previous experience within an Environmental role. You will have Integrated Management System (IMS) and ideally Permitting experience. Good organisational and planning skills are essential as is the ability to communicate well at all levels. You will be computer literate and have excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must hold a full driving licence, as the role includes regular travel to sites in the UK. This is a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months, covering maternity leave. As the Quality and Environmental Manager you will sit within the senior management team at head office and travel nationally, supporting over twenty regional distribution centres and manufacturing sites with Quality & Environmental best practice and compliance. You will focus on providing expert advice and support on all Quality and Environmental related matters, acting as a key point of contact for the wider business network. There will be an acute focus on managing and maintaining the company’s Quality Management Systems and Accreditations in accordance with the appropriate standards and relevant applicable legislation (current standards include: ISO 9001 & ISO 15378), ensuring the QMS can support the HSQE, Sales and Operational objectives of the business. You will drive the development and implementation of the QE strategy focused on legal compliance and the needs of the business. Through the development of relationships across the business, you will ensure all customer requirements are exceeded whilst leading the development of a QE culture. As the Quality and Environmental Manager you will be qualified to a minimum of NEBOSH general with relevant knowledge and experience of management systems ISO14001, ISO9001 and ISO15378. Ideally you will have experience in a packaging, logistics, distribution or manufacturing environment. You will have a strong working knowledge of ISO related compliance and some proven experience of FRC and/or BRC would also be advantageous .You must also have proven experience of working within a large fast paced business covering multiple sites. You will be qualified to Non-Domestic Energy Assessor Level 4 and be required to travel throughout the UK.
